Johan Museeuw, Fangio Reybrouck and Joris Van Raemdonck founded Museeuw Bikes in 2007.

The goal was to produce a complete line of race bikes. While other manufacturers have been working with carbon composites for many years, Museeuw Bikes chose to use a new innovative composite blend: a mixture of chemical fibre (carbon) and a natural fibre: flax. From the beginning they believed that this new Flax-Carbon composite had special characteristics that were suitable for use in the production of bicycle frames and components. The initial conception stage, laboratory research, and the ultimate production of this highly specialized material was performed by IPA–Advanced Composites of Belgium, a company owned by Joris Van Raemdonck.

The goal was to produce a complete line of race bikes.

By mid 2007 a new investor joined Museeuw, Carpentier Holdings. Carpentier became a major shareholder of Museeuw Bikes bringing a much-needed capital infusion and a strong belief in the Museeuw philosophies. IPA subsequently withdrew, and the patents were transferred to Libeco Belgium and Museeuw Bikes for the production of bicycles and related parts and accessories.

De grondstof wordt in Vlaanderen geproduceerd.

The special Museeuw Flax-Carbon fabric is being produced in Belgium by the Libeco Company, located in Meulebeke.

Roberto Billato is in charge of production and oversees quality control. He also was instrumental in all of the new 2010 frames designs that will be launched to the public in September. A team of experienced Billato trained quality control engineers will be responsible for the day-to-day production to assure that only the highest production standards are met.

Johan Museeuw is still very much active in the company that is his namesake. He continues to be the face and the voice for Museeuw and is responsible for all Museeuw public relations. Even with this busy schedule he still finds time to ride. Each and every design is given his personal feedback and endorsement after extensive real-life road testing. There is always room to improve, and with our special Flax-Carbon there are unlimited opportunities to create that “prefect “ mixture of race performance and rider comfort.

In the summer of 2009 Museeuw Bikes proved scientifically that Flax-Carbon works as anticipated. Comparative tests with other well know hi-end carbon frames was carried out by Dave Luyckx, Master of Science in Composites. His test results was obtained through rigorous in-field testing under controlled conditions. The resulting data proved conclusively that that a Flax-Carbon frame absorbs the microshocks up to 20% better than any conventional carbon fiber frame

Museeuw Bikes has also signed an agreement with the University of Ghent to do further research in order to find out how to effectively use the characteristics of Flax-Carbon for optimum results.
